Course Description
Course Profile
The Digital Chemistry programme is designed to train the next generation of computational and theoretical chemists. It provides a solid foundation in quantum chemistry, molecular mechanics and dynamics, exploratory data analysis, machine learning algorithms, and advanced programming in Python and R to solve complex chemical problems using digital tools. The curriculum blends theory with extensive practical work, including project-oriented courses, MSc laboratory work, seminars and elective subjects that span physics-based and data-based (chemoinformatics) methods. Students also explore interdisciplinary topics such as AI-assisted drug design, numerical methods, and chemical diagnostics. Graduates are well-equipped for careers in research, academia, industry, and data-driven sectors where computational chemistry, cheminformatics, and data science are increasingly applied.
Programme highlights:
- Data-based chemistry (chemoinformatics, exploratory data analysis, machine learning)
- Programming and numerical methods (Python, R, scientific computing)
- Interdisciplinary elective subject groups linking chemistry, physics, and data science
- Project-oriented courses, MSc laboratory work, and research seminars
- Theoretical and computational chemistry (quantum chemistry, molecular modeling, molecular dynamics
Job prospects:
- Computational or modeling chemist in chemical, pharmaceutical, or materials industries
- Cheminformatics or data analyst working with chemical and molecular datasets
- R&D scientist supporting experimental research with simulations and digital tools
- PhD studies or research assistant positions in computational or theoretical chemistry
- Scientific programmer / AI-for-science specialist in interdisciplinary teams
