Course Description

Course Profile

Master’s Studies „Remote Sensing and GIS” are carried out in English. This is a unique specialization in Poland, concentrated on the maximization of the use of remote sensing data

by the application of the newest world’s achievements of geoinformatics in processing large amounts of spatial data. The graduate of these studies will be able to program the processes of processing and presentation of various types of remote sensing data in the database environment of geographic information systems (GIS). During the studies, students will    know the methods of obtaining data from different types of instruments for registration of remote sensing images getting data from various heights (satellite, manned aircraft, drone or terrestrial). They will know the problems of constructing structures of spatial databases and their application in data analyses and presentation of the results of spatial analyses. The third pillar of studying this specialization is programming in the high level of PYTHON and in script language of the environment of data analyses MATLAB.

Thus, within the specialization, the students will learn methods of preparing and assessing remote sensing data, as widely as possible using both commercial and open-source data, as well as commercial data published free-of-charge for educational purposes. Due to the co-operation with photo-aviation companies, the students practically get familiar with the process of obtaining airborne data and will independently obtain data from cameras and terrestrial scanners and drone data.
