Founded in 1945 and named after the astronomer who changed the way humanity understands the universe, Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) is one of Poland’s leading public universities. With campuses in Toruń and Bydgoszcz, NCU is home to nearly 18,000 students across 16 faculties covering medicine, sciences, law, economics, humanities, and social sciences.
NCU combines strong academic standards with an international outlook. The university is ranked among Poland’s top institutions and appears in major global rankings such as QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education. Its internationally recognised strengths include medicine, physics and astronomy, law, and the humanities.
International opportunities are a core part of student life at NCU. Through double, triple, and joint degree programmes, students can earn qualifications from multiple European universities while studying in Toruń. As a member of YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe), NCU gives students access to courses, exchanges, and collaborative projects across a network of innovative European universities.
NCU also coordinates the prestigious CLIDE Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme and participates in the GOALS Erasmus Mundus programme, offering fully international study paths across several European countries with joint diplomas upon graduation.
The university offers a wide range of English-taught programmes. One of its standout institutions is the Collegium Medicum campus in Bydgoszcz, where international students can study Medicine, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy using modern laboratories, simulation centres, and university hospitals.
Students interested in research and academic careers can continue their education through NCU’s interdisciplinary doctoral schools. PhD programmes are available in fields ranging from medicine and natural sciences to humanities and social sciences, with many programmes offered in English and connected to international research projects and exchange opportunities.Life in Toruń is one of the university’s biggest advantages. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with medieval streets, riverside cafés, green spaces, and a welcoming student atmosphere. Safe, affordable, and easy to navigate, Toruń quickly feels like home for many international students. Everything is close by — campuses, dormitories, cafés, libraries, and the historic old town are often within walking distance.
Toruń also has convenient rail connections to Warsaw, Gdańsk, Poznań, and Wrocław, while nearby Bydgoszcz Ignacy Jan Paderewski Airport offers international flight connections for easy travel across Europe.
NCU’s student dormitories are modern, affordable, and located close to campus. International students receive priority placement, making the transition to life in Poland easier and more comfortable from the very beginning.
Studying at NCU means becoming part of an international academic community in a city where history, student life, and opportunity come together naturally.
