Course Description

Course Profile

Are you curious about language? Do you have a passion for literature? We have designed a challenging course that will develop your linguistic as well as critical skills, and will be an inspiration for your reading.

English for Knowledge, Culture and Innovation is a course that offers an excellent opportunity of studying English in depth alongside linguistics and literature. The participants will acquire advanced language skills in courses like practical English grammar, speaking, reading and writing, pronunciation, and integrated skills in English. They will learn about language science and linguistic diversity. The course will also provide a thorough grounding in English and American literary works.

The second year of the course gives the students a choice between two modules: Global English Cultures and Languages and Psycho-Pedagogical Aspects of Language Acquisition. The classes in the former aim to equip the students with linguistic, cultural and literary competences to help them further their own research interests. They will include the varieties of the English language, pragmatics and intercultural communication as well as experimental methods in studies on language and mind. Historical, social, political and cultural aspects of English, American or Canadian texts will be part of the course, too.

The latter module focuses on language acquisition, psychology of language learning, language processing and intercultural approaches to language development.

Fluency in a foreign language, an understanding of foreign cultures, analytical and research skills are all in great demand on the job market. The training we offer provides the graduates with transferable skills that are sought after by employers, such as qualitative and quantitative data analysis, advanced linguistic and critical skills, and cultural sensitivity. Our students do not only learn English.  They learn Polish and one other foreign language from scratch. The options are German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.

This course can also be a bright start to obtaining English teaching qualifications, such as CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or DELTA (Cambridge Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

The course is also an excellent preparation for further linguistic, literary, cultural or educational studies. The graduates will be well-prepared to take a range of Master’s programmes, both in Wrocław and elsewhere.
