Course Description

Course Profile

The Environmental Protection and Management studies are addressed to English-speaking students who seek specialist education in contemporary environmental conservation and natural resource management. The programme responds to the current challenges associated with the global climate and environmental crisis and prepares students to address the resulting environmental issues. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on practical skills, including decision-making, ecological assessment and evaluation, and the use of GIS. It ensures that your expertise is rooted in evolutionary principles, providing a broad understanding of ecosystem functioning and the ability to design experimental setups. Students will acquire knowledge of both the scientific basis and legal aspects of environmental protection.

The programme participant acquires a profound understanding of contemporary determinants of and challenges to environmental conservation and understands the legal complexity and principles of management of the common resources. Graduates can plan and execute actions towards effective monitoring, protection and sustainable use of natural resources. They recognise current threats to the environment and can devise preventive and repair actions. They obtain interpersonal skills to successfully apply such competences in real world environmental management. Graduates are able to raise funding and apply for grants. Completion of studies allows employment in public or private sectors worldwide: the administration of protected areas, environmental agencies, various research units as well as non-governmental organisations and private enterprises.

Exemplary positions include:

Chief green officer (CGO),

Environment manager,

Sustainability consultant,

Environmental consultant,

Environmental auditor,

Environmental planner,

Environmental impact assessor,

Environmental compliance specialist,

Environmental conservation officer,

Geographic information systems analysts,

Eco-Tour Guide.

Graduates will also find job opportunities with government agencies, such as

regional directorates for nature conservation,

and in foundations and NGOs dealing with ecology and environmental protection in a broad sense.

Another important option for further development is to start a scientific career!
