Course Description

Course Profile

The study program covers issues in the field of:

- achievements, importance and ethical aspects of biotechnology, especially medical, in the modern world,

- processes and phenomena occurring in nature and everyday life,

- the use and development of methods and techniques for prevention, diagnosis and therapy of diseases important from the point of view of public health,

- aspects of biotechnology regarding the method, stages and control of bioprocesses,

- methods of obtaining and improving production strains of microorganisms and cell lines,

- planning and conducting biotechnological experiments and describing them independently,

- biochemical, molecular and cellular basis of the functioning of organisms, principles of transmitting and expressing genetic information and its transformation,

- bioinformatics knowledge,

- occupational health and safety rules in a biotechnology laboratory and work ergonomics when using research equipment,

-knowledge of the principles of organizing biotechnological production and typical technologies used to obtain bioproducts,

- legal and ethical aspects of biotechnology and economic and organizational aspects of the functioning of biotechnology enterprises,

- protection of intellectual property and quality management in laboratory practice.

Education Requirements

The qualification procedure for the second-cycle degree program in medical biotechnology is based on:

- the grade point average obtained during the whole period of the first cycle degree program biotechnology, or medical biotechnology, or biology (the grade point average calculated as an arithmetic average of the results of all examinations, credits ending a subject, obtained throughout the study period),

 - certificate documenting English language fluency level
