Course Description

Course Profile

The Computer Science studies are conducted entirely in English. In the first year of studies, students receive solid preparation (constituting the basis for the fundamental topics of computer science), including mathematical analysis, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability theory and the basics of statistics, as well as the basics of algorithms and the theory of calculation. As part of computer science subjects, students learn about computer systems and at the same time computer operating systems and the principles of functioning of computer networks. At the same time, they learn the basics of computer programming. In the following years, students develop programming skills, design programs tailored to user requirements, use computer programs (including Internet applications), familiarize themselves with aspects of the construction and functioning of databases and data warehouses, designing information systems, principles of IT project management, business process modelling, data processing in the cloud and other areas of computer science. Elective subjects available in the last three semesters will allow students to additionally supplement their knowledge with selected topics in the field of data analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, broadly understood business automation and other domains. The context for all subjects is the area of management sciences, which is manifested not only by including subjects typical for this field in the study program (e.g. Organization and Management, Enterprise Systems in Management, Economics and Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurship), but also by using data and business threads in the programs of individual IT subjects. As a result, the course has an interdisciplinary value, which should be an additional asset for graduates applying for work in various types of organizations and enterprises.

Graduates of the Computer Science major will have extensive knowledge of modern computer science, with particular emphasis on its application in management and business. The strong emphasis placed during the studies on software development and implementation, as well as databases and information systems in enterprises, will allow graduates of this major to take up employment as computer scientists in companies in the IT sector as well as in practically all enterprises and institutions (both in the economic and public sectors).
