Course Description
Course Profile
Geoinformatics technologies, which are developing rapidly, are finding increasing application in many areas of life. Consequently, the demand for high-level professionals in this field is also growing.
Our course pays particular attention to the implementation of modern remote sensing and geo-information techniques, as well as spatial planning to promote sustainable urban and rural development. Students gain competence in the organization and management of optical, aerial and UAV campaigns and the processing of imaging spectroscopy data to map and monitor natural ecosystems, artificial infrastructure as well as natural hazards. With us they will gain knowledge of databases containing spatial and non-spatial data, data management, handling large databases and query optimization techniques.
This is therefore a course of study for those interested in both technical issues and natural sciences. Candidates for registration on this MSc course must first hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent).
Upon successful completion of the course, participants may find better job prospects in: the fast-growing Geoinformatics industry, agencies and companies involved in the acquisition, management and analysis of spatial data, public and private sectors in the European and global market.
Main modules
• Environmental processes: to understand basic environmental processes and use GIS tools for characterizing them
• Technical and social aspects: to possess the knowledge about technical infrastructure of rural and urban areas and settlements modeling of environmental processes and economic aspects of spatial management
• Geo-information and Earth observation systems: to apply modern geoinformation and remote sensing techniques for mapping and monitoring the natural environment, risk management, and protection of natural resources
